With many of us now working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to maintain a healthy lifestyle and create a home environment that supports your mental and physical wellbeing.
We wanted to share some healthy living principles and tips that you can implement around the home:
Remove any products in your home with chemical nasties, there are lots of DIY cleaning recipes that do the job just the same as that potent oven cleaner.
Open doors and windows as much as you can to bring in fresh, outdoor air and to flush out any indoor air pollutants.
Let the natural light flow! Exposure to natural light helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, improves our circadian rhythms and even makes us happier! Try moving some furniture around so that you can chase the sun throughout the seasons.
If you have an allergy sufferer in the house, you can consider removing wall to wall carpet, air blankets regularly in direct sunlight and don’t let dust build up on surfaces (use a damp cloth instead of dry dusting).
Clear it out, clean it up! As Marie Kondo says, the objective is not to just clean, but to feel happiness living within your environment. If it no longer serves you, throw it out, or donate it.
Create a retreat or space in the home dedicated to the things you love; a corner with your favorite books, yoga mat or a place to just sit (or dance) to your favourite music.
Bring some nature indoors, grow some herbs in the kitchen, hang some plants from the ceiling. This connection to nature can increase your wellbeing and even reduce stress.
These are some small changes you can make around the house that are cost effective and simple! If you are interested in changes at a larger scale, the team at Your Home Designs can help you make holistically informed decisions when building or renovating your home.
